Crate Comedy

The Comedy Warehouse is just full of wonderful artifacts from Disney parks throughout the years. It also has a nice collection of interesting crates, containing everything from Dalmatian spots to poison apples.

Slip and Fall

Tucked away in the front of the MuppetVision 3D preshow theatre is a bright yellow drum full of banana puree (Chiquita bananas, to be exact). One can only help but wonder what might be their intended use.

Behind that drum is an amusing crate whose inscription reads "Mikey's TV Rental, It fell off the truck -- if it works, good luck!"

Sawtooth

A special delivery to Acme Taxidermy got a little jostled during the typhoon and ended up revealing its contents: a large sawtooth shark. This suspended crate provides a nice comedic touch before guests don snorkels and experience the Shark Reef attraction at Typhoon Lagoon.

Goofing Around

Fulton’s General Store over at Port Orleans Riverside is arguably one of the best resort gift shops around. The decor helps to strengthen this claim, including the scene that takes place in the middle of the store.

Huey, Dewey, and Louie are seen wearing straw hats and matching shirts, pulling on a rope with an unseen outcome (though it is probably not a good one!).

Chip and Dale are up to their usual mischief - antagonizing poor Donald once again. This time they have dropped a crate onto his head, which gives him a look that is famous in the cartoon world.

Goofy exercises what not to do on a ladder, and seems to be having some problems with the stove pipe.

Even Morty and Ferdie Fieldmouse make a rare appearance, helping to fan the fire.

An Explosive Situation

When Big Thunder was abandoned, work on the mine shafts was still in full swing, as evidenced by these dynamite sticks left in the rocks.


A waiting supply on dynamite sticks is also within easy reach on the floor nearby.


Another great find in this area is a crate bearing the Tri-Circle-D ranch insignia. Apparently the miners at Big Thunder Mountain are also patrons of Fort Wilderness.

Scientific Crate

This crate can be found in the preshow area for Muppet*Vision 3D, from the Scientific Doohicky Company based out of Newark, New Jersey. Its contents include thingamabobs, whatzits, doodads, widgets, and assorted folderal.

Take a Spin

Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin is a great dark ride in Mickey's Toontown whose queue may just be as interesting and fun as the ride itself. Every twist and turn leads to a new set and new things to see.

Of course, the Dip makes an appearance (apparently the cans are actual props from the movie) with a recipe should you desire to make your own.

Message boards are littered with references to not only Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but other animated movies as well.

And of course, no queue is complete without a great crate to enjoy!

A Slice of Life

Ever wonder how the Anaheim Produce stand keeps its fruit supply well stocked? Wonder no more: it appears this truck does an excellent job of transporting large numbers of oranges, grapefruits, and other citrus.


Notice the careful attention to detail, even down to the period crate labels .

Before the Music Stops

In keeping with my duties as a member of the CAS, here is another fun crate found near the Streets of America (on the old stage area where the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles used to perform):

Crate Sighting!

This post is dedicated to Jeff, Lou, and all members of the CAS (that's the Crate Appreciation Society). After much searching and wandering, I finally found some interesting crates at Epcot to add to the collection.

The first is located on the Friendship boat dock in Morocco. Its location unfortunately makes it difficult to reach, but it is easily seen as you walk down the ramp. The top left corner reads "Serving Great Britain [word was obscured to me by the railing, but I assume it reads Wales] Ireland" and the bottom right corner reads "CM. Blaney Import Export Co." I guess the next question should be, who is this mysterious "Blaney?"


Other great crates can be found at the African Outpost, next to the Refreshment Coolpost. Presumably, Coca-Cola bottles are being shipped here from around the world, and the crates bear the famous logo as it is written in various languages. It is a great way to visually show that even though we are a diverse race, we are still tied together by even the simplest of objects.

An Explosive Situation

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has wonderful theming in both the queue area and on the ride itself. One of my personal favorite details is a seemingly normal crate located off to the right as you make your way into the main building. If you do not get it at first, make sure you read it outloud quickly!

A Crate Idea

Near Min and Bill's Dockside Diner at Disney/MGM Studios, there is a pile of crates. As in Disney's way to leave no area un-themed, these crates have been painted with fictional addresses for movie characters.


This one references Citizen Kane (which just recently maintained its #1 position on the AFI's Top 100 Films List) and cleverly includes a destination to the Rosebud Sled Company.


Another crate is dedicated to that staple of the holiday season, It's a Wonderful Life, with a Ship To address for George Bailey himself.


And the third crate is heading to Scarlett O'Hara's plantation in Gone With the Wind. Another dress, I suppose?



And while I normally do not like to reference details that have been lost over time, I just had to include a couple of photos of another crate that has unfortunately disappeared in the last few months. It includes a reference to a fantastic Mel Brooks movie, and my all-time favorite Broadway show, The Producers. Hopefully it will make a reappearance soon.
